CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Yusuke Urameshi
Age: 16
Canon: Yu Yu Hakusho
Canon Point: Chapter 150 (he's just died for the second time; will be playing it out that he wound up here instead of reviving as a demon or his soul going to the Spirit World)
Character Information: Yusuke Urameshi
Personality: Brash and impulsive, Yusuke is a bit obsessed with fighting. And by that, it's more along the lines of wholly obsessed with fighting. He loves a good fight, whether it's watching or joining in (though he can't sit out of a fight for long) and he doesn't mind if it gets a little dirty. That is not to say, however, that is all he is about.
He also has a protective streak to him that is considered surprising. It's the reason that led up to his unexpected death, in fact. His protective streak is strong for kids, the first which is noticeably shown by him jumping in front of a car in order to save a young boy. He's seen first scolding him for playing by the street, then playing with him to stop him from crying. Later, when he sees a car heading for him, he runs out to protect him, unable to stand by and watch him get hurt or killed. He's increasingly pissed when he hears that he wasn't supposed to do anything, stating he couldn't have possibly stood by while a kid died. This protective streak extends naturally to the people he's close to, including friends and family. When his childhood friend, Matsuo Suekichi gets in a bind and starts doubting himself, Yusuke jumps in without much thought, possessing to help him out (as he's a ghost at the time) and then proceeds to beat him into having confidence in himself. The most obvious and strong protective streak is toward his childhood friend, Keiko. He is shown several times rushing to save her when she's in danger, not caring about the consequences, and his spiritual power notably increases whenever he's worried and protecting her. This protective streak later goes on to extend to his new friend Kuwabara, which is seen when he's supposedly killed, as well as Kurama and Hiei. The younger Toguro brother points out that Yusuke is especially protective of Kuwabara, possibly because he's considered the weakest of the group.
He is also a bit of an idiot, relying heavily on instinct and luck to survive impossible odds. He shots his spirit gun at a mirror in hopes that it will reflect it like it reflects light, but it's stated he had no back up plan in case that failed. He is entirely too trusting once he fights someone and enjoys it, to the point where despite knowing that Hiei wants to fight him again and probably kill him, and despite having just met up again, he puts his full faith in him to rescue him from a dire situation. He is shown to be similarly too trusting with Kurama, agreeing to hear him out in regards to returning an artifact, while Botan voices concerns that it could be a trap.
Despite relying heavily on intuition about people, his intuition is revealed to be actually incredibly low. He's given a test to predict jaken (rock paper scissors) and fails miserably. When told he needs to make it through a deadly maze, he crashes straight through it, choosing the most dangerous path. However, considering he has a huge love and need of danger in his life, it could be argued that his intuition is actually very high and only directs him toward dangerous situations and possible allies.
In spite of having such a huge love of fighting, Yusuke seems has a natural charisma to him. He may be a violent idiot, impulsive and brash, but he also has a natural ability to draw others to himself. Examples of this are Chu and Jin in the Dark Tournament, who later look out for him, as well as their allies Rinku and Touya. This charisma only seems to effect other fighters like himself, however, as he also intimidates the normal students at his school and exasperates his teachers. He often used this to his advantage, using the fights Mr. Iwamoto picked with him to ditch school and collecting "name dropping fees" from the other students. He also has a huge joking nature. When he's first revealed to be the product of demon atavism that he uses this against the SDF to fuck with them, pretending that he's going to take over the world and even that he will eat them.
His joking nature leads him to be a bit insensitive at times. Upon finding out he was dead, he had little concern for the people he left behind, stating they would probably be better off without him. However, he was surprised to find that there were people who were upset over his death when he visited his wake as a ghost. There are several instances of him being insensitive towards Keiko throughout the series, towards Botan, towards Koenma and even towards his friends, like Kuwabara. Some of this is due to his nature of wanting to hide his feelings, like when he purposefully hid that Genkai died. Kuwabara was upset over this fact, but Yusuke admitted that he hid the fact because he wasn't ready to admit that she died yet.
Overall reaction: When asked what he intends do now that he's a demon spawn, he says that regardless of what he is, he's still Yusuke Urameshi. Yusuke doesn't care about the finer details that most people would concern themselves over. In the manga, changing into a demon didn't bother him and he won't have a problem turning into another creature here at first either. When he starts to notice his personality changing, however, he will probably become more upset over this fact.
Side note: If you want to see Yusuke's alter ego and personality wrapped up in a nutshell, here it is.
5-10 Key Character Traits: Brash (negative - energetic or highly spirited, especially in an irreverent way)
Impulsive (positive & negative - actuated or swayed by emotional or involuntary)
Protective (positive - tending to protect)
Charisma (positive - a spiritual power or personal quality that gives an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people; the natural ability to draw others)
Insensitive (negative)
Would you prefer a monster that FITS your character’s personality, CONFLICTS with it, EITHER, or opt for 100% RANDOMIZATION?
---->100% Randomization. I flip flopped back and forth between Fits and Either before just deciding, what the heck. Go wild. Have fun. I'll make due with whatever I get.
Opt-Outs:
Werewolf
Troll
Arachne
Roleplay Sample: Okay, so winding up on a creepy island, or whatever the hell this place was, wasn't the worst thing that happened to him, Yusuke decided, looking out the window. Waking up in a hospital room had set him on edge. He was tough; there wasn't a lot that could knock him out and even fewer things that could do it so he wound up in a hospital. That something did that to him without breaking a bone freaked him out more than a bit. Finding out that he had no idea where he was or how he got here makes him even more suspicious. He really hopes it was just a storm or something that knocked him out.
"This would be so much easier if I could remember what happened. Oi. Doc!" He waved over the doctor once again, trying to temper his annoyance. "How long until I remember what happened?"
"The circumstances of amnesia are different in every patient and depend largely on a number of factors, such as the circumstances and--"
"Cut to the point. Am I getting my memories back or not?"
"It's hard to say at this point."
"So you don't know. Some help you are, doc. Okay, so let's say that I do get them back, how long would it take?"
"It could take days or weeks or even years to recover. It might come back gradually or all at once, considering the amount of time you lost was relatively small. It's hard to say--"
"So basically, you don't know jack shit." He ran a hand through his hair, ruffling it in aggravation. What the hell? Seriously. He couldn't find any of his spirit stuff, so he had no way to contact Botan or Koenma or any of them. He was flat broke too, maybe enough cash to stay at some cheap, run down motel for a night, two tops, and enough money to buy a couple meals, but that was it. So no getting home any time soon. Not that he knew how to get home because he damn well didn't know where the hell he was now.
"Alright, give me some good news, doc. Tell me you at least know somewhere I can stay for the night, cheap, accepts cash." He'll find a motel and then call somebody. Not Keiko, he doesn't want another stupid lecture about self-control and being an idiot (although he's pretty sure it wasn't a lack of self-control that got him here). Not Kuwabara, because his pride would never allow him to be in his debt. Not his mother, either, cause he wasn't stupid; she wouldn't do anything. So Kurama it was. The brainiac should at least be able to find out where he was and how he'd get back. That was a start, right?
